- Prepare for reconditioning
- Review work order and where required check with appropriate personnel.
- Remove guides from machinery.
- Select appropriate repair, maintenance and personal protective equipment and check for operational effectiveness in line with manufacturer's recommendations.
- Plan reconditioning process in line with work order.
- Machine guides
- Follow organisational safety procedures thoughout all maintenance and repair processes.
- Review condition of saw guides to assess wear.
- Select attachments for holding guides flat while grinding or machining.
- Set up machining equipment to conduct reconditioning.
- Examine and dress or sharpen tooling in line with safety procedures.
- Remove scored material from guide by grinding or machining.
- Select grinding or machining speeds and feeds to avoid burn marks on guides.
- Recondition guides to meet geometric requirements of sawing equipment.
- Segregate and dispose of unserviceable guides in line with environmental protection practices.
- Remove, adjust and replace guides
- Remove worn guides from carrier without damaging component.
- Select replacement guides according to manufacturer's instructions.
- Drill fastening holes and clean up surfaces around drill holes.
- Insert new guides in carrier at correct position and required tolerance without damaging component.
- Adjust guides to clearance in line with manufacturer's instructions.
- Check clearance and guide security before starting saw.
- Identify and report low stock and shortages of new guides in line with organisational procedures.
- Identify routine processing and equipment faults and resolve or report to appropriate personnel.
